be able to exercise critical thinking. To consider the relationship between critical thinking and ethics the concept of critical thinking needs to be considered. A definition of critical thinking has
been given by More as; "the careful, deliberate determination of whether we should accept, reject, or suspend judgement about a claim, and the degree of confidence with which we accept
or reject it" (Moore et al, 1997). It can be seen as the ability to think independently of the influence of others, to think originally, to evaluate and consider the
evidence of any subject presented and the ability to view subjects from a variety of perspectives. Ethics and ethical action cannot be
easily identified, the initial thoughts concerning an issue may be subject to bias, influence from others and persuasion, which in turn may prevent the entire issue from being seen holistically.
It is only with the entire picture that an ethical decision ca be made, without the input of the entire situation and the recognition of different interests it is difficult
to determine what is ethical. However, it may also be argued that ethics are not negotiable and are not dependant on the outcome, this is the approach taken by Kant
(Collinson, 2000), as such, ethics may not require critical thinking, they are reliant upon duty and this can be set, for example, following set rules, such as a prohibition against
