is moral obligation to consider the consequences of technology (Ganssle, 2002) Similarly, a principal concern of systems analysts is the uses to which the systems that they design or maintain
will be put (Taylor and Moynihan, 2002). In many cases systems analysts purposefully avoid employment situations that violate a personal ethical code. For example, some systems analysts may avoid working
in defense-based industries due to concerns about creating a computer-based system that may facilitate the destruction of people or property. However, ethical dilemmas abound in the modern world and the
solutions are not always clear cut. Therefore, ethical and social responsibility has become an issue of concern addressed by systems analysts in the literature on this topic. For example,
White and White (1991) offer a method for analyzing ethical situations using system analysis. They take the general system model familiar to people in this field and use its
properties to illustrate the application of religious ethics to engineering concerns (White and White, 1991). Their model for ethical analysis includes the following steps (which they assert follows the parameters
of a good systemic approach): 1) state the ethical nature of the problem; 2) state the alternatives; 3) by the use of the laws of logic, rationally elaborate the
consequences; 4) project the self into the situation; 5) identify with those affected by the act; 6) estimate and compare the values involves; 7) decide; 8) act; and 9) observe
