A 7 page paper discussing the ethics of religious discrimination that a company wants to commit but has not yet done. Its receptionist has converted to Islam and has adopted the full attire of an orthodox Muslim woman, projecting an extreme image for visitors to the company's headquarters. The company wants to place her in a less visible area; Title VII defines such an action as religious discrimination. The woman requests accommodation for other requirements, which do require that she not work alone in an area that a man could enter without other people being present. The paper discusses the paradigms of ethics, utilitarianism and deontology to arrive at an ethical position, but the law provides the final solution. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Madison, receptionist for a small auditing company, has converted to Islam and has begun wearing the full attire of an orthodox Muslim woman, extending to the burga, a veil that
leaves only her eyes exposed to view. She also has announced that she cannot work with a male employee unless other people are present.
The CEO and other members of senior management want her removed from her public position and have suggested that she be moved to a secretarial pool separated physically
and visually from the reception area. Paradigms of Ethical Dilemmas There are four paradigms of ethical dilemmas: truth vs loyalty; individual vs
community; short-term vs long ter; and justice vs mercy (Kidder). Kidders (1995) view preferences are "truth over loyalty, community over self, long over short term and mercy over justice."
All of these positions take the wider view. Though loyalty is admirable and those without it generally are untrustworthy, placing loyalty over
truth can result in perversions that even those adhering to loyalty would not want for themselves or for those they love. Loyalty can promote wrong choices and wrong positions,
perhaps for good reasons but with disastrous results over the long term. Community over self is more obvious and calls to mind Mills
concept of "the greater good." The best interests of the community take precedence over the wishes of the individual. As Dolly is a recent convert to Islam, her
focus is inward and she is not considering her employers position and the desirability of having a receptionist that does not exhibit an extreme position of any kind. The
