E-Business is no longer a subject for science fiction. Indeed, e-businesses are springing up all over
the world. Just as more traditional businesses are subject to certain ethical, legal, and regulatory expectations, so too are e-businesses. Although e-businesses operate without the traditional face-to-face interactions
that have characterized business transactions throughout history, their goals are the same. These goals include the delivery of ethically sound and legally appropriate products and services. Society exerts
various pressures to insure that this goal is accomplished but so too does the business itself. This paper will present three examples of those pressures. The first is
the steps being taken in China to keep e-business within their rigid societal guidelines. The second and third examples are based in the United States and involve copyright issues
as tested by e-businesses such as Napster and America Online. There are numerous examples of how ethics, law, and regulation impact e-businesses.
These impacts are not limited to any one region of the world but are, in fact, found throughout the world. The more regimented a country is, it seems, the
more thought is invested into the consideration of how to structure e-businesses so that the measure up to the ethical and legal considerations of concern. In most all cases,
this attention to detail is a benefit rather than a detriment to e-business. Consider, for example, e-business in China. Despite concerns just a few years ago that Chinas
