of this behavior continue today in that many African Americans continue to distrust health practitioners. An examination of what happens when people demonstrate unethical behavior, which shows that a lack
of integrity can have far-reaching and long-lasting repercussions that damage society. It is an inherent part of the American political system that politicians are expected to be the civil
servants of the people, that is, to be primarily interested in serving the public and promoting the public welfare. They are suppose to have the best interests of society as
a whole as their main focus. In December 2008, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich betrayed that trust by attempting to auction off the Senate seat of President-elect Barack Obama to the
highest bidder ("Feds"). While the case has yet to come to trial and, therefore, Blagojevich is still presumed innocent until proven guilty, the federal case against him is highly
incriminating, as the FBI has transcripts of the governor offering "to sell or trade the vacant Senate seat for personal benefits for himself and his wife, Patti" ("Feds"). The entire
fabric of the American democratic system falls apart if citizens lose faith in their elected officials or the other bureaucrats who are responsible for the day-to-day activities of running the
