counsellors can be seen as very influential, whatever stage the career of a client has reached. Career counsellors are becoming more popular, and the services more accepted, but the role
is not new. The earliest career counsellors were seen in the late nineteenth century when many of the jobs for life that agricultural workers had performed were disappearing and workers
needed to look for alternative employment, career counsellors helped them find the right type of work (Cottone and Tarvydas, 2003). However ethics was not a consideration of the time, it
was not an ideal scenario, economic matters over rode any personal issues and the job was more if that as a facilitator rather than as a personal counselor. Today
the role is more complex and the primary responsibility of the career counselor is towards the client, not any potential employers. Career counseling is counseling that has a focus on
a particular area of the clients life; the world of work and the clients career (Cottone and Tarvydas, 2003). To perform this task the counselor requires a large amount
of data, not only factual data regarding the different attributes and chatter types, as well as qualifications and availability of career types, but also data from the client that can
be seen as personal, not only qualifications and experience, but more personal issues such as personality type and personal feelings or other confidential information.
If we consider some to the approaches the counselor may adopt and models that can be used the way on which personal data may come to the fore
