ethical egoism also emphasizes acting in ones own self-interest, but adds that this is not necessarily advocating another individual acting in the same manner (Thiroux 37). Third is universal
ethical egoism, which is the principle of every person acting in "his or her own best self-interest, which does not take into consideration the interests of others unless this further
serves ones self-interest (Thiroux 37). The major disadvantage of individual and personal ethical egoism is that while they can dictate the actions of the individual, they fall short of
providing a moral blueprint for all human beings (Thiroux 37). In addition, these forms of egoism typically discourage the individual from articulating what theory best serves their own self-interests
to avoid angering individuals that do not share their perspectives (Thiroux 37). This might lead these egoists to be deceptive or to lie about their beliefs to avoid any
controversy (Thiroux 37). It could be argued that these two types of ethical egoism cannot provide the individual with any legitimate benefit if it must be kept a secret
(Thiroux 37). On the other hand, universal ethical egoism does not concern itself with what the individual should do; instead, it focuses on "what all human beings should do
if they want to be moral: They should always act in their own self-interest" (Thiroux 37). Advantages of universal ethical egoism include that it makes self-interest easier to determine;
it also encourages individual freedom of choice and makes the individual responsible for his or her own actions (Thiroux 40). However, because of social interdependence, self-interests are always going
