of one person may go against the ethics of another. They are powerful aspects of our personality and they essentially control our behavior in most respects. However, when we stop
to truly examine what they are and where we get them, the subject can become somewhat confusing or allusive. With that in mind the following paper examines what ethics are,
what this particular writers ethics are, where those ethics were obtained or learned, and how those ethics are manifested. Ethics Ethics are ideals that essentially guide us, if
not drive us, to behave in particular ways. Ethics are not always adhered to, but they are always possessed to some extent. For example, one individual may have the ethical
belief that lying is acceptable in most cases because it can protect people and it does not really harm people in light of the fact that everyone is responsible for
themselves. As such, lying cannot harm others, it is there choice to be harmed by a lie. Others may see lying as the ultimate crime against their personal ethics, believing
that the truth is always the best route to take. But, in terms of deviating from ones ethics, even these people may tell a "white" lie to protect someones feelings,
such as telling someone they look good when asked, even if they dont believe that person looks good. Of course, these are relatively simple ethics. Other more serious ethics
involve not breaking the vow of marriage, not killing, and essentially following the ten commandments in the Bible, even for those who are not religious. Ethics guide our simple every
day lives, and they guide the most serious of our issues in our overall life. They give us guidelines by which we can live and by which we can live
