aspects of morality. Ethical systems abound in society, usually to provide some kind of instructive guidance for our behaviors within a given context. Ethical theories like the Ten Commandments,
however, purport to prescribe a cohesive ethical statement that applies to all of reality, in all contexts. Such normative ethical systems are popular because they tend to be simplistic to
comprehend and address, at least superficially, all four of the major aspects of morality. The Ten Commandments connection to religious morality, for one, is obvious. The Commands directly address the
ethical tenets governing the relationship between Man and God in an explicit way (Thiroux, 2006). The first several Commandments, for example, indicate how one should position God within ones concept
of cosmology, how one should respond to carven idols, and even how one should spend ones time on Sundays. All of these Commandments address some aspect of the Man -
God relationship. The Ten Commandments seem to address the aspect of morality and nature a little less directly. However, from a universal viewpoint, the Commandments do prescribe how one should
behave in accordance with cosmology and the day to day calendar (Thiroux, 2006). For instance, the Commandments dictate not just that one believe in the Christian God, but that one
assign him a uniquely existent role within ones theological framework. The fourth Commandment, to remember the Sabbath day, impacts the natural cycles of life in a fundamental way, lending a
symbolic significance to a particular day of each week. Elements of individual morality can also be found in the Ten Commandments. For instance, there is the fifth commandment, prescribing the
