Basketball Association (NBA) draft this coming June (Wise, 2003). But, something happened. James accepted two sports jerseys from a Cleveland clothing store and these arent just any two jerseys, these
jerseys were valued at over $800 (Wise, 2003). The jerseys were retro, one was a Wes Unseld Washington Bullets jersey and the other was a Gale Sayers Chicago Bears jersey
(Wise, 2003). An interesting side-note is that Wes Unseld himself cannot get one of the jerseys (Kansas City Star, 2003). Accepting gifts for athletic performance is strictly prohibited in
high school leagues (Wise, 2003). The Ohio High School Athletic Association subsequently stripped James of his eligibility, which means that this high school senior is not allowed to play
in any of the teams remaining regular season games, which means that he will not be able to play in the state playoffs (Wise, 2003). Furthermore, the teams last win
has been forfeited (Wise, 2003). The jerseys were not the only issue - James mother gave him a $50,000 Hummer and this gift was also called into question (Wise, 2003).
James has been cleared of any violation regarding the Hummer but the jerseys remain (Wise, 2003). James contends that he thought he was receiving a congratulatory gift for his academic
achievements, specifically, his 3.5 grade point average (Kansas City Star, 2003). At least that is what his lawyer presented in a 32-page document filed with the court (Kansas City Star,
2003). Frankly, anyone who has a brain cant possibly believe James really believed this. The store asked James to pose for pictures that would be displayed in their sports
