to marketers, especially where the goods have the potential to be harmful to the consumers. Tobacco is a product that has be proven to be harmful, alcohol also has harmful
potential and financial services can be both beneficial and costly. When looking at tobacco there have been a number of measures introduced
into the marketing world to constrain the way tobacco is marketed. This has been undertaken in the interest of public health with marketing outlawed in many countries, as well as
the use of indirect marketing, such as the use of sponsorship. However, alcohol, which also has the potential to be harmful, does not have the same severe constraints and
marketing is allowed. By comparison financial services have far fewer constraints in terms of the way marketing takes place but there are still significant controls placed on what can, or
cannot be said, within the advertisements. However, all these types of firm need there to be some marketing in order to sell their goods, and while the UK may have
controls, many other countries, especially developing countries, do not have those controls. The job of the marketers is to help a firm sell their goods, but what is
the real responsibly of the marketers. There is a contract with the company making the goods, so there is both a contractual and an ethical duty to that company, but
there is also a wider duty. It may be argued that all members of a society have a duty to that society. If there is a reasonability to that society
