paper considers the situation for some of the characters in the film The Jury with regard to the ethical dilemmas they face. Discussion The Jury is not, strictly speaking, a
film; it is a 6-hour BBC-TV miniseries made in 2002. Because it is a longer format, the director has the luxury of time, and uses it to explore the case,
and in particular the jurors, in detail. In brief, the story is that of a 15-year old Sikh youth, Duvinder Singh (Sonnell Dadral), who is accused of hacking John Maher,
a classmate, to death with a sword (Morgan, 2002). At first it seems like the case should be a "slam dunk": there are witnesses to Singhs behavior the morning of
the murder that suggest he was agitated; he was seen running from the scene with blood on his shirt; he changed clothes and threw his school uniform into the canal,
suggesting it was bloody; and he cut off his hair, indicating great psychological distress (Morgan, 2002). But as the evidence is examined more closely, doubt begins to creep in-even the
eyewitnesses are unsure when questioned closely-and its not such a slam dunk after all. The series is on three disks of two hours each. The first disk is concerned
with the description of the crime and the selection of the jury; the second covers the prosecutions case, followed by that of the defense; and the third disk is the
jurys deliberation (Morgan, 2002). Sprinkled throughout the legal proceedings are bits of information about the jury and their private lives, and how they affect the trial. There are also several
