From a business perspective ethical decision-making is essential if a business wants to protect and maintain a good reputation, from a moral perspective ethical decision-making is the duty of the business and its managers. Ethical decision-making can be divided into six steps. By considering a hypothetical situation that the process can be applied to the different stages can be demonstrated. In this case we will consider a company that is seen its profits fall. A potential strategy to increase profits would be the outsourcing of some jobs. This would benefit the company and the shareholders, but it would also put employees out of work. The company is concerned with the need to balance ethical and practical considerations. The first stage is to clarify the issue. The company has seen profits decline and needs to cut costs, it has been determined that a sufficient rise in sales would not be possible, and would unresolved problem in the short term. A strategy has been proposed which includes the outsourcing of a section of the business, we will assume it to be some manufacturing. There will be costs involved with setting up of the outsourcing including redundancy costs for these 20 members of staff. Many of these members of staff are the main wage earners within their family in a community where unemployment is relatively high.
