There is talk about offering tax incentives for those who become organ donors, and talk of contriving lists where people who are willing to donate organs are put at the
top of lists if they ever need organs donated. It is a very complex subject, though it seems like a very straightforward one. For the most part, organ donation sounds
like a very noble and good endeavor. The truth, however, is that there are many complications to the topic and the reality of donating organs. The following paper first discusses
the medical and legal conditions involved in organ donation, then discusses the pros and cons of organ donation. The paper then discusses ethical reasons why many people, families, are against
donating their organs. The Medical and Legal Conditions Involving Organ Donors The most important medical and legal aspect of organ donation involves the fact that the person from
whom the organ(s) is being taken must be declared brain dead. When a person is declared brain dead it is a matter of time before all the body functions cease.
But, with the brain dead the body is also in a position where the organs are still functioning to some extent, making them living tissue ripe for transplanting. A person
must be deemed brain dead in order for organs to be taken out. One author notes that, "Brain death and organ transplantation are so closely linked that is sometimes
seems you cant have one without the other. This is certainly true in transplantation, which requires a brain dead corpse whose circulation is maintained by mechanical ventilation to preserve the
