zone. I was upset, worried, afraid, and all I could think about was getting my grandmother to the hospital as quickly as possible. Nothing else mattered - not
the other people in the other cars, not the traffic lights, and not the reading on my speedometer. When I was pulled over, got a ticket, and lost my
license, I believed my life was over. Driving is everything for someone my age; it not only represents transportation it is also an important status symbol. But it
was an important beginning because this time gave me the opportunity to think about what I did and the serious damage my speeding may have caused. I did some research
and was shocked to learn that more teens die in car crashes each year than by illness or injury (ODonnell, 2005). According to the studies I read, many of
these fatal accidents that kill over 3,000 people each year are because of speeding (ODonnell, 2005). Why? For one thing, teens lack the experience of adult drivers, and
as a result make more mistakes. When I was pulled over for speeding, I had only one thought in my mind: Get my grandmother to the hospital right now!
As far as I was concerned, the best way to do that was to drive her there as fast as I could. I figured that being young, my
reflexes were faster than adults so I could react immediately if I needed to even though I was driving over the speed limit. I did not stop to consider
