appear to be all that necessary in many of his novels. In two of his short stories, however, he does seem to desire to dig a bit deeper into the
female mind. These stories, "Cat in the Rain" and "Hills Like White Elephants," present us with women who are in some ways simple, through the eyes of the narrator, and
yet also possess a powerful position within the story. When we look at the work of Hemingway and consider it next to his real life and his relationships with
women, we begin to see some of the foundations of the shallow, or sexual, nature of women as seen through the eyes and perceptions of Hemingway. The following paper examines
Hemingways real women, his apparent attitudes towards them, and how it relates to the two short stories mentioned above. Hemingway and His Women As is generally understood, there
were many different women in Hemingways life and many of them found their way into his literature in one way or another. From his mother, to his lovers, and his
wives, women always seemed to entice Hemingway and then he would somehow lose interest in them and move on. In better understanding Hemingway and his women we first begin with
