is known as his psychosocial theory. "Erikson believed that childhood is very important in personality development. He accepted many of Freuds theories, including the id, ego, and superego, and Freuds
theory of infantile sexuality" (Davis; Clifton). However, Erikson did not agree with "Freuds attempt to describe personality solely on the basis of sexuality, and, unlike Freud, felt that personality continued
to develop beyond five years of age" (Davis; Clifton). In his theory we note that "Each stage is characterized by a psychosocial crisis, which is based on physiological development, but
also on demands put on the individual by parents and/or society. Ideally, the crisis in each stage should be resolved by the ego in that stage, in order for development
to proceed correctly. The outcome of one stage is not permanent, but can be altered by later experiences" (Davis; Clifton). The following paper examines Eriksons theory and then compares and
contrasts his theory with systems theory. The paper then examines the strengths and weaknesses of Eriksons theory and finishes with a discussion of Eriksons theory as applicable to social work
values and ethics. Eriksons Theory In Eriksons theory we have several stages of development, known as age stage indications. They following stages, the first of several, are those
