consider the way in which entrepreneurship may have a role in an environment where there is value placed in stability it is first necessary to define what the term entrepreneur
means. The origins of the term are found in the French "entreprendre" meaning to undertake (Drucker, 1993). The dictionary gives a more useful definition where an entrepreneur is defined
as "One who starts a business or other venture that promises economic gain but that also entails risks" (Dictionary.com, 2011). However, this is still a constrained approach, and in theory
setting up any business will be associated with risk. Joseph Schumpeter is useful here as he believes that the emphasis should be placed on innovation, for example, looking at the
development of new products or services, new methods of production or new organisational forms. Examples given are Bill Gates, Clive Sinclair and James, all of which fit into at least
one, if not more of these areas of concern (Drucker, 1993). In this context medical entrepreneurs are people such as Christiaan Barnard who perofmed the first heart transplant and Patrick
Steptoe who was responsible for the first test tube baby. These are major innovation, but they are not the only type
of innovation. At one stage and many of the care models which are seen today were once new were introduced by entrepreneurs in the medical field. The first hospitals were
