be a successful entrepreneur. Certainly, perseverance pays off and perhaps anyone can potentially be successful with the right mentor. Also, McNerney (1994) suggests that there is no ideal personality type
to be successfully self-employed. Yet, others maintain that there is a certain type of personality that is conducive to entrepreneurism. There are many personality quizzes that crop up that
are also based on research. Indeed, entrepreneurs are a bit different from the general public. Joachim (1997) points out some entrepreneurial traits such as allowing small incidents with customers to
roll of ones shoulders, and understanding that getting the work done is highly significant. It seems that entrepreneurs have a different attitude and do not get caught up in
small things. Further, entrepreneurs tend to be action-oriented as they must make things happen (1997). They cannot sit around waiting for the phone to ring. Instead, they must be proactive.
While they may deal with customers effectively, entrepreneurs may become angry or frustrated if they have to wait for the approval of others (1997). They are independent self-starters. Perhaps
the most essential characteristic is that the individual feels in control of his or her destiny ("The Entrepreneurial," 1997). Competitiveness and a tolerance for pressure have also been seen as
positive attributes in one study (Singh, 1989). Chay (1993) reports on a study that hones in on personality factors. Differences are noted in terms of work patterns as well as
