data usage. Firms that relay on a fast turnover of stock and see a rapid movement of goods over a diverse network need to exercise a high level
of control over their supply chain, creating values chains that may be effectively leveraged. This is particularly important for supermarkets, such as Wal-Mart, and their acquisition in the UK Asda.
Wal-Mart are the larges global retailer, but in the UK the firm, through Asda, has remained the second largest supermarket, a follower to Tesco (Leroux, 2009). However, the gap between
the leader and the challenger is large, while serving 18 million customers a week, it has only a 17% market share whereas Tesco has a 31% market share (Leroux, 2009).
It has been argued by some commenentaotrs that one of the key aspects of the increased and sustained success of Tesco has been its enterprise management systems, with the ability
to use the data that they collect throughout enterprise operations in pored to create value. This indicates that Asda and Wal-Mart have a potential opportunity if they were able
to further the way that the existing enterprise systems were utilised or to assess and enhance the system. However, the key will not be in the system, but the way
it is used, so any consideration needs to look at the needs of the firm and the needs of the users and/or relevant stakeholders. 2. A Conceptual Model for Enterprise
