Some experts, however, argue that no model can foster or enhance creativity, it is something an individual has or does not have. Others, however, argue that models can be used as guides, sort of as a stepping stone to get started. The business community especially supports the second notion - creativity models are useful as guides until the natural flow of ideas emerges from the group. Certain models, such as Wallas Model for the Process of Creativity and Osbornes Seven Step Model for creative thinking are explained. The second part of this essay focuses on creative problem solving techniques. Again, these can be used to help remove the blocks in thinking and in generating novel ways in which to resolve problems. Brainstorming, for instance, is a very common technique in most problem solving models. Recommendations are made for the Hong Kong business community, which is losing market share to China. One creative thinking model, Osbornes Seven Steps and two problem solving techniques, mind mapping and problem reversal are recommended as tools to deal with the problem. Introduction Montuori and Purser reported there has been a flood of literature discussing the issue of collaborative creativity (2000). For instance, in the early 1990s, Woodman, Sawyer, and Griffin argued that "social, group, or collaborative creativity are central factors in organizational innovation and change" (Montuori and Purser, 2000). Since then, other experts have commented on the importance of creativity to a companys bottom line but there is very little empirical evidence to support the arguments and assertions (Montuori and Purser, 2000). Montuori and Purser assert that the very dualisms that exist in society are the reason for this lack of evidence (2000).
