the same time, globalization and the expansion of international business connections and the Internet have all served to further the perceived benefits of the spread of English as a global
language. The underlying reasons for the spread of English and the support of English as a global language began with the end of World War II and the beginning of
the Cold War, in which the United States gained their Super Power status. Prior to this time, the spread of the English language was limited to the colonial influences
of England and the United States, and pockets of English language learning occurred in the midst of indigenous cultures. Missionaries developed systems of spreading English language learning, but the
widespread acceptance of the language didnt take hold until the start of the Cold War. The movement of the United States into their Super Power position determined a
political impetus for the spread of English language learning throughout the world. As more and more countries embraced the capitalist model and turned towards the United States for trade
partnerships, English became a political language. The expansion of American business interests in the Third World further supported the development of English as a global language. The fall
of the Soviet Union and the fragmentation of the international community have led to a question about the necessity for a single global language and the impacts that English language
