English colonization of the so-called "New World" came replete with a number of cultural and political considerations.
The period encapsulating one of the most intensive in terms of English colonization of the Americas was one of the most progressive times in England in terms of national and
economic achievements and developments in the arts and academia. Never-the-less, for a variety of reasons English citizens elected to leave their country and embark on adventures in the New
World. As a consequence their entire lives changed. These changes occurred not only on a personal level, however, but also on a collective level. The evolution which
occurred in the way those of English descent viewed government is of particular interest. During the height of colonization, England was in a
state of religious unrest. There was considerable friction between Protestants and Roman Catholics. This friction was escalated with each change in religious orientation to the crown. Englands
political situation during this time period was also characterized by great turbulence. Englands financial resources were almost depleted but she managed to not only stay afloat but to allocate
sufficient funding for the identification and colonization of various new lands which were considered of benefit to the country. Under the
leadership of Sir Walter Raleigh settlers first landed in what is not the state of North Carolina. They traveled southward exploring the coast of the new continent as far
