but at the same time know he was in a professional environment. The student will continue to point out what steps were taken in the preparation for this interview.
One of the primary tasks accomplished during the first interview was obtaining a baseline history of the patient by way of such information as age, race, childhood, family and domestic
issues such as parental alcoholism and abuse. The patient went into further detail during this first interview about family dynamics and the role each member played or plays within
the familial environment, noting how a violent, domineering father and a submissive mother added up to an unstable home life. Greater detail was provided concerning the patients reason for
relocating to New York and subsequent move to New Jersey, as well as his educational background and vocation. This first interview also delved into the patients sexual orientation, a topic
that is the source of obvious distress to him, inasmuch as he is battling with his homosexual tendencies. Prominent depression and anxiety mark the extent to which this issue
is overpowering his ability to cope with it. Coupled with this angst is the uncontrollable urge to cry in order to release the torment he feels with the confusion
over his sexual preferences and what he believes to be part of the reason why he cannot definitively classify himself as a heterosexual. This aspect of the first interview
