Employment opportunities in the aeronautical industry are affected by a number of factors. Not the least of which has been the recent terrorist activity in the United States.
More common impacts, however, include economic fluctuations within the industry itself which affect job availability throughout the nation. While the aeronautical industry has been adversely impacted by a
number of factors over the years, however, job opportunities still exist. These opportunities range from in-flight support personnel, to pilots, to airframe and powerplant maintenance positions. The latter,
in fact, are possibly more plentiful than the former categories. While airframe and powerplant maintenance positions are limited in the Memphis area specifically, an occasional position opens up.
These positions very from volunteer position with such organizations as the Memphis Belles who are training young teenagers in the field by rebuilding a Cesna 152 (Memphis Chapter of Women
in Aviation International PG) to Fed Ex who have a variety of positions in the aviation industry as a whole. Jobs in Memphis, however, are subject to a large
gamut of factors which must be considered. One of the primary factors affecting ones chances of securing employment as an
Airframe and Powerplant mechanic in Memphis are, of course, education, experience, and certification. While FAA certification is required for most aircraft maintenance in Memphis, there are entry level positions
in which a mechanic can work under an FAA certified supervisor. With FAA certification, however, the opportunities in this field become more plentiful as employers prefer fully certified mechanics
over junior mechanics. Even the most qualified individuals, however, have to take into consideration the number of factors which affect the availability of employment in this highly-specialized arena.
