Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This 6 page paper is written in three parts. The first part is based on a case provided by the student. A staff member is given a promotion, but the new job does not include merit payments which are part of the company policy, instead the pay rises are uniform for all staff of that rank. The reasons behind this and the potential implications are discussed. The second part of the paper considers how a satisfaction survey may be designed and implemented and what the result may show. The last part of the paper discusses the way a remuneration package may be designed. The bibliography cites 2 sources.

the merit system; he is making the same award across all of the positions. There are arguments for and against this approach. It may be argued that this is
unfair as he is giving the same reward to the members of staff regardless of the level of effort and inputs that they are undertaking in their role. This may

could also decrease the potential for political rivalry between the different chairs. There may be the assumption by the Dean that all
of his chairs are working hard and to making important contributions. However it may also be argued that at this level the weighting based on research and teaching may not
be fair, some staff may need to spend tasks on other, necessary duties. By creating a single system where all staff members get the same the Dean may be trying
to promote equality and allow the chairs to focus on doing what is best for the organizations rather than themselves and their own department. There are a number of
