he had had his eye on for some time now would soon become his. It was about time, too, because not only did he give nearly twenty-four hours, seven
days a week to his employer, but he had also been with the company going on five years. John felt if this was ever a time to receive the
managerial promotion, this was it. Friday arrived, and John was called into his boss office. This was not unusual given the number of last minute assignments he was known
to dole out to him for the weekend, so he assumed he would be spending Saturday in the office. When he entered, he was greeted by his boss and
a man he had never before met. He was introduced to John as Mr. Gordon, the new operations manager of his department. John was dumbfounded. Not only
had this stranger stolen the promotion right out from under him, but he had not even worked one day with the company. John knew he was more than qualified
for the job and so did his boss. What was too painfully clear was the fact that John was an African-American with little to no opportunity for advancement. Minorities
still have an ongoing struggle to contend with in relation to managerial positions, even though they are making some stride within the corporate structure. While many companies are rising
