Essay / Research Paper Abstract
5 pages in length. The capacity to heal involves the interwoven aspects of body, mind and spirit; to remove any part of this equation is to significantly impair the potential for complete restoration of health. By the same token, those who surround the patient in a care-giving role (nurses, family, friends) play an integral part in this holistic approach and must be taken into consideration when measuring levels of distress and risk factors involved with maintaining that holistic outlook. Understanding the distress level and risk factors of patients, family and caregivers serves as a barometer of how successfully patients are able to tap into all three components of holistic healing: mind, body and spirit. This study sought to determine to what extent distress levels and risk factors were exacerbated or mitigated in each of the groups (patient, family, caregiver) with weekly sessions of psychological therapy. barometer of how successfully patients are able to tap into all three components of holistic healing: mind, body and spirit. This study sought to determine to what extent distress
levels and risk factors were exacerbated or mitigated in each of the groups (patient, family, caregiver) with weekly sessions of psychological therapy. Although family caregivers perform an important service
for society and their relatives, they do so at considerable cost to themselves. There is strong consensus that caring for an elderly individual with disability is burdensome and stressful
to many family members (Schulz et al, 1999, pp. 2215-2219). III. EVALUATION & TERMINATION/FOLLOW-UP The improvement of distress levels that occurred after group in participant is significant; beginning with
response of little distress before group from 18.8% and ending with 43.8% after group indicates a strong correlation between thought processes and holistic healing. Respondents who reported moderate stress
before group (56.3%) experienced a decrease (43.8%) after group that dropped them into the "little" category. Those with extreme distress before group (25%) underwent the most negligible improvement (12.5%)
but improvement nonetheless. Findings for risk factors in participant illustrated improvement as well despite an increase in the moderate group. A total of 31.3% reported mild risk after
group as compared with 25% before; after-group responses for moderate risk was up to 37.5% from a before-group measure of 12.5%; and the maximum risk of 62.5% before group reduced
