also a highly critical and consequential stage in the development of that childs entire personality. That infants are products of their immediate environment speaks to the importance of positive
reinforcement and parenting skills that provide the kind of emotional guidance so crucial to the childs mental composition. If left emotionally unattended, infants - who "most certainly require a
stable and secure parental-family unit and hierarchy, and an abundance of pure maternal and paternal physical and emotional experiences" (Federici, 2003) - learn the opposite lessons required for living within
a civilized society, which ultimately brand him an outcast who displays uncontrollable antisocial behavior. The lack of love, attention and guidance children received
during infancy has a direct correlation with the emotional disturbance of unattached disorders, with institutionalized children reflected as being particularly compromised in this area because "the caregivers in these institutions
perform shift-work and because they usually are responsible for the care of many young children" (Smyke et al, 2002, p. 972). There are a number of variables that may
