The following paper summarizes and analyzes this work. Summary As mentioned this work is a hypothetical work that presents the author as a fictional character engaging in the task of being a governor to a child, a male infant. He is an orphan and Rousseau sets out to illustrate the ways in which this child should or will be, raised. The work consists of five separate books, or chapters, that take us through various developmental stages. The work itself is something of a philosophical examination of the possibilities while also a story about a fictional boy/man, Emile. Rousseau intends to raise this child as a strong, independent, intelligent individual. In many ways he is working to produce a man who is a savage of sorts in a world that is filled with society. His young man will be a man who can live anywhere and fit in, but yet a man with a mind of his own and a will of his own, well rounded, unafraid, and strong. Analysis "Emile" by Jean Jacques Rousseau is more than a philosophical analysis, however, as it relates to the development of an individual. It is a very fictional piece of work where people such as Emile really do not exist because such definitive and structured raising of a child is all but impossible and calculating the results is clearly impossible.
