military units so they can see first-hand what a war is like. This paper discusses the concept and the controversy surrounding the use of "embedded reporters." Discussion Embedded reporters
are allowed "unprecedented access to the battle frontline" with the result that they are filing stories that are generally considered "compelling journalism" (How embedded reporters are handling the war, 2003).
Since the "embedded" reporters "eat and sleep alongside soldiers and, thanks to recent advances in technology, bring live reports of firefights and artillery onslaughts into our living rooms" they bring
us a picture of the fighting unlike anything weve seen before (How embedded reporters are handling the war, 2003). "The advantage is that you get to see whats going on
at a very localised level. So, when we talk about pockets of resistance, viewers can see exactly what we mean" (How embedded reporters are handling the war, 2003). The reporters
who are embedded in this way also have the protection of the units they travel with, no small consideration in an area where the fighting is so chaotic (How embedded
