noted as specimens of political accomplishment. It is hard to deny, at least to some extent, that this is true. The Founding Fathers are magnificent and are responsible for creating
the living political system that persists in the United States. In a historical novel called Founding Brothers, Joseph Ellis sheds light on the prowess of these men many refer
to as the founding fathers. In reading the novel, and studying history, it seems that the individual who is most prolific, and most instrumental in the creation of the
United States, is Thomas Jefferson. He is in fact the founding father who is quoted and referred to most often. His many accomplishments suggest that he was the individual who
was most influential. Also, Jefferson happened to be the third president of the United States, the primary author of the Declaration of Independence, a lawyer, and a designer. He
notably designed Monticello. Jeffersons biography reads as a series of significant events, but of course the most important are that he would become president as well as the fact that
he was primary author of the Declaration of Independence. Perhaps he would put marriage and family high up on his priority list and he was likely proud of his accomplishments
in law, but by and large, his primary contribution include two elements: the presidency and his participation in the writing of the Declaration. Also, Jeffersons ideas are significant.
Jefferson gave fine expression to the principles of the natural rights of man, which of course include self-government (Foner & Garraty, 1991). In fact,
it is likely that the reason his name comes up so much is because of this premise. Jefferson was clearly an intellectual and a philosopher at heart. Yet, this became
