that was affected by the Black Plague. It is a story that examines society at the time, and how various people in the society dealt with the plague. As one
would expect, many of the townspeople were Christian and as such believed that the plague was nothing short of punishment from God. The story, told by the heroine, is about
how that narrator begins to believe that the plague does not have anything to do with God or Gods punishment. She is encouraged, and perhaps educated as well, in her
journey of discovery by the minister and his wife Elinor Mompellion. The following paper offers a character analysis of Elinor. Elinor in Year of Wonders As mentioned, it
is the narrator who tells the story of the people and of the plague. This woman, Anna, is actually the employee of Elinor and Elinors husband and it is perhaps
quite clear from the beginning that the character of Elinor is strong, influential, wealthy, and perhaps a bit eccentric in her social class of wealth and power. Anna tells the
reader the following in relationship to who Elinor is, at least in the beginning prior to the true destruction of the plague: "Elinor....looked exquisite that afternoon in a simple gown
of creamy silk. A few fine pearls gleamed in her pale hair. But more than her delicate beauty, Colonel Bradford appreciated her substantial connections. She had been a member of
one of the olderst and most extensively landed families in the shire. It was noised about that in choosing Mompellion, she had spurned another suitor who might have made her
