poetic elements. Red, Red Rose My love is like a rose, like a rose in June. My love is like a sweet song. My love is equal to
your beauty and I will always love you. I will love you till the oceans are gone. I will love you until the rocks melt and as long as life
goes on. Good bye. Goodbye for a little while. I will come back, even if the distance is ten thousand miles. This is a simplification of Robert Burns poem
"Red, Red Rose" and it is obviously a collection of words that are fairly lifeless. For example, what does it mean that ones love is like a rose? In the
simplification there are not words which illicit thoughts of growth and blooming and beauty other than in the fact that it mentions a rose. There is no indication as to
why love should be equated with a sweet song. In simplified words the poem becomes a sappy unimaginative statement of love. What makes the poem powerful and full of
imagery and emotion is the tone, the meter, and the words that present imagery. For example, in Burns poem we have the use of "O" in the first and third
lines. This presents us with the image of one who is filled with emotion as they speak, emotions that are powerful and amazing. There is the use of repetitive notions
