screen system (The Economist, 2002). The main motivation was to avoid problems with voting cards, voters select their choice by touching the screen. The system is completely electronic and is
a direct recording electronic system, meaning that the votes are automatically counted as they are cast (The Economist, 2002). The trial runs took place in a mock election to test
the system, and those suing it were very happy with it, finding the touch screen easier to use than having to punch out chads (The Economist, 2002). However, there are
some question marks over this system, as the computer specialists are warning that the ability to verify all votes are transmitted or tabulated accurate is very weak, and there is
no way of double checking the results (The Economist, 2002). A different but similar system has been used in Travis County, Texas (Business Wire, 2002). This is a very
similar system, it is also paperless. In the results produced here there has been confidence and delight by those using the system as voters as well as the clerks and
election officials. This was an easier system to set up than that of Florida, however, as a paperless system the issue of verification is still present, but eSlate, the programme
