alive and wiser. In Alan B. Chinons "In the Ever After: Fairy Tales and the Second Half of Life" we are given unique analyses of fairy tales, illustrating how they
present us with the magic of youth and the hard concrete realization of adulthood, where magic seems to cease existing. Through adult years we analyze and investigate all aspects of
our consciousness, and our growing wisdom and knowledge leaves no room for the magic we once possessed. Bearing this in mind the following paper offers up an fairy tale of
sorts, and then examines it from the perspective of spiritual themes. Fairy Tale There once was a family consisting of a mother, father, and a daughter. The
mother and father were farmers. They grew and sold many different vegetables and fruits, and although some years were hard, with little revenue and little success with the crops, they
always managed to survive and make it through to the next season. They were essentially a happy couple. They worked hard and survived and were content with that. The little
girl, however, was not happy with such a life. She wanted more. But, she never complained and never let her parents know that she was unhappy with such a simple
existence. One day, when she was not within seeing or hearing distance of her parents, she made a wish that she could become a hummingbird. She had watched hummingbirds and
felt them to be the most beautiful and free of all creatures. Suddenly a fairy came and told her that she would be a hummingbird every morning and evening, but
