be of historical significance, it is important to note with which part of American history each is associated. Thomas Jefferson was an American president, but his significance is not only
pertinent to that role, but in other things that he did. He helped to lay the foundation for America in terms of law. Similarly, the people involved in the Massachusetts
Bay Colony would lay the groundwork for religious freedom. Others noted are explorers, whom without there would be no great United States today. Each individual in his or her own
right has contributed to American history. Thomas Jefferson was born in 1743 (Miller & Faux, 1997). He is considered one of the greatest Americans of all time and many politicians
today quote him or refer to his activities. He is also considered to be one of the greatest presidents of the nation as well. He was also integral
in the creation of the Declaration of Independence and one of its signers (1997). One of Jeffersons more controversial writings has to do with one where he said that
there should be "a wall of separation between church and state" (Haynes, 1998). Today, the Supreme Court has often used Jeffersons "wall" metaphor to rule on cases concerning separation of
church and state (1998). Daniel Boone is a legend. Like Jefferson, he was born in 1743 (Miller & Faux, 1997). He is well known for blazing the Wilderness Trail
(1997). Henry Hudson was an explorer and navigator and worked for the Dutch East India Company (1997). In 1609, he would lead an expedition on various waterways including the Delaware
Bay, The Chesapeake Bay and the Hudson River (1997). One can see that some of the individuals would set precedents for law, others would expand the United States physically.
