When such groups are in the majority, it can be seen that there is a feeling of separateness based on special status or superiority. There is also a connection between tradition and social and cultural acceptance. The Islamic tradition is an example of the religious community and ethnic identification that has come together for the purpose of asserting their individuality as well as their right to religious freedom. The Muslims provide an excellent example of the association between community identity, community service and political organization. In the revivalism of the twentieth century, the traditions begun in the seventh and eighth centuries continues. While Christians celebrate the birth of their savior as the main religious holiday and Jews celebrate the power of God that allowed them to be passed over for death, the Muslims of the world celebrate the teachings of Mohammed by fasting for the entire month of Ramadan. Afterwards, they celebrate by breaking the fast with neighbors, friends and relatives in a feast that commemorates the blessings of life. All of these religious based holidays share the distinction of being of extreme importance to the members of the religion in question as well as being relatively unknown to those outside of that religion. For Muslims, the feast of Eid at the end of Ramadan is the only major holiday that is a socially defined and shared event.
