who not only talks the talk but walks the walk. She is the author of Nickel and Dimed, about surviving on minimum wage in America. She knows what its like
because she did it, and then wrote about it; having had the guts to live that life gives her a great deal of authority on it, as well as insight
into how women fare generally in society. This paper discusses her short essay, "What Ive Learned from Men." Discussion Summary: Ehrenreichs main point
is that over time, what women have learned from men is mostly to sit down and shut up. Women have been taught that its their place to make sure things
run smoothly and peacefully; men are warriors, women are peacemakers (Ehrenreich). To that end, they tend to put more effort into interactions than men do; they are self-deprecating, not taking
the credit that is due them for their efforts; and generally being self-effacing and deferential because to step up would make them - horror of horrors - unfeminine (Ehrenreich). Ehrenreich
says its high time women spoke up, took the credit for their accomplishments, and quit trying to make men feel good by making themselves feel bad.
