The exact dates of the Industrial Revolution are a subject for debate, but it is felt that the first phrase of the Revolution began around roughly between 1760 and 1830 and then transferred to a second phase around 1850. With the introduction of steam power which was fueled primarily by coal and the use of that steam power to run machinery used in the manufacture of textile, great changes stated in the manufacturing world, which lead to changes in all other aspects of a typical citizens life. The discovery and use of steam lead to better forms of transportations such as steam-powered ships and railways. LIFE IN BRITAIN IN 1750s During this period, the manufactures of most products such as textiles were done at home and on a small scale. The work to produce the products was confined to a cottage with different people in different cottages doing their portion of the work. This work was very slow and laborious. The cottages were small, the production scale was small and each family worked for themselves (Hobsbawm, 1999). However, not everything was done under one roof. For example in the process of making wool that was to be used for clothes; the cleaning of the wool would be done in one cottage, the brushing of the wool to separate the fibers (carding of the wool) might be accomplished in another cottage, and finally spinning of the cleaned and carded wool would be spun by spinsters in a totally different cottage. A skilled weaver who would use a handloom would then weave the yarn, which was the product of the spinning, and finally the finished product would be sold to a clothier.
