not only has detrimental effects for the victims but also for the perpetrators, as longitudinal studies have shown that bullies are have an elevated risk for becoming involved with delinquency
or crime and they continue to have social problems, which are associated with the high level of their moral disengagement, which is typically accompanied by experiencing both shame and guilt
(Ahmed, 2008). Victims also experience at risk for negative mental health repercussions from having experienced bullying as they are at increased risk for experiencing shame that derives the tendency to
blame themselves for their experience, which often includes social isolation (Ahmed, 2008). The following examination of literature explores what is known about the effects and repercussions of bullying, both
in regards to victims, but also in regard to what the bully experiences in terms of mental health outcomes. In every instance of bullying, there are two main participants:
the victim and the bully; however, in the majority of cases, there are also third parties, who are the bystanders, that is, the witnesses who see a bullying incident occur
(Ahmed, 2008). Witnesses may participate in bullying, either by providing verbal support for the bully; remaining silent and trying not to become involved; or taking a stance in defense of
the victim by trying to stop the bullying behavior (Ahmed, 2008). The study conducted by Ahmed (2008)involved using data from the Cross-National School Behavior Research Project, which surveyed 1,452 student
