Because approximately one in every eight American women, especially between the ages of 35 and 54, will develop breast cancer, it is important to consider its effects, both physical

a sexual partner. The next course of action is always a surgical procedure, either taking the form of a mastectomy, in which the cancer has spread beyond the breast
and entire breast and lymph nodes are removed; or a lumpectomy, in which only the lump is removed. After either procedure, there is also follow-up treatment required. Sometimes,
both chemotherapy and radiation are used in an aggressive treatment of the disease, a harrowing treatment described by women who have undergone the painful process as "slash, poison and burn"
