nerve cells from the dopamine property of cocaine creates a feeling of tremendous pleasure; this overload of dopamine causes the cell receptors to shut down and ultimately refuse the sensation,
which leads the individual to increase the amount and frequency of use. Additionally, judgment and ability are impaired to the point where paranoia, aggression and violence quickly follow suit
(Definitions). High doses of opiates like heroin can depress the nervous system to such an extent that the user is unable to breathe or cough; at the same time, the
heart does not receive cues to beat, blood vessels dilate and bowel activity comes to a halt. By contrast, the euphoric feeling that accompanies lower doses can still lead
to complications if combined with alcohol, which - like heroin - is a depressant and can cause overdose. In a more general sense, heroin impairs the brains ability to
register pain, anxiety and desire while at the same time enhances an artificial sense of contentment. As users become more and more addicted to the drug, they are less
and less able to deal with the reality of everyday life and often hide away in the false security of endorphin-like response to their fix (Definitions). Marijuanas psychoactive properties impact
