daily lives."3 They offer examples, such as the Live Earth concert series being held in eleven different countries and the leaded paint used in China that caused children to give
up their favorite toys.4 These types of things may make the world flatter but the world is far from being truly globalized. Tragic examples of this fact have been
experienced just over the last few years: the tsunami that hit Indonesia leaving 300,000 people dead, Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans that left hundreds dead and tens of thousands homeless,
the earthquake in Kashmir killing 75,000 and leaving 2.5 million people homeless.5 There is no existing transnational network of emergency processes.6 We may experience more trade, more communication, perhaps even
more political integration but we have no procedures, no plans that identify what each country will do to help another who has experienced a massive natural disaster or even a
man-made disaster. Add to this the internal unrest that exists within some nations and we find that regardless of corporate activities and even some humanitarian activities, some nations face enormous
threats. Consider the president of Iran who states clearly he wants to wipe Israel off the face of the earth7; he would like to do that same thing to America.
Burma is one of the least developed nations in the world, it is a dictatorship and is guilty of outrageous violations of human rights.8 Activists have been working to
change this situation for three decades but it continues.9 One could easily conclude that globalization has not had any positive effect on the Burmese people. This remains true even though
