is a characteristic that has been consistently observed in leaders (American Library Association, 2007). The leader always knows what the goal is and where they want to organization in terms
of the market and mission. [Student, an example in your position could be a leader whose goal was to make the billing department more efficient or to receive payments more
quickly, etc.] * Charisma. Individuals in leadership positions who are not liked cannot be successful. Whereas, the leader with a great deal of charisma will have better relationships and is
able to gain support and follower-ship (American Library Association, 2007). Oftentimes, leaders with charisma who have been observed seem bigger than life, they are often perceived as never making a
mistake but if they do, they admit it and go on. This ties directly into the self-assurance a leader must have to be effective (Hooker, 2000). Self-assurance is having confidence
in oneself but this does not mean an ego-oriented person (Hooker, 2000). * Intelligence. Effective leaders observed have always been intelligent, they are smart and they have continued
to learn (American Library Association, 2007). These leaders have never been afraid to say they "dont know something but Ill find out and get back to you." And, they follow
through. * Excellent communication skills. Everyone needs good communication skills both the ability to get their message across and the ability to really listen and understand what another person
