there are two million single parents in the United Kingdom and most of them do not have jobs (Paton & Kirkup, 2008). This is rather distressing on one hand, but
on the other, the idea that a single parent does not have a job suggests that there is more time to spend with children. Still, the ideal household appears to
be a nuclear family design where there are two parents-one working and one at home-which can contribute well to raising moral children. There is an ethical problem in the
United Kingdom schools today, which is that seeming campaigns against single-parent families are in the midst. Well meaning politicians blame the families for not functioning as opposed to caring for
the children who need more attention as a result. It seems as if a similar sentiment comes from the school system. There is also a blame the victim mentality. Single
parenting is difficult, and so, it is important for the school systems of the United Kingdom to be more proactive in creating a metaphor that is friendly to children of
single parent households. II. Single Parenting and the schools The argument in respect to single parenting and education is heated. There are
those who make a case for the desire to build the nuclear family model. Paton & Kirkup (2008) write that because of the break up of the traditional family, teachers
are acting as surrogate parents. The idea comes from a long time educational leader in the United Kingdom by the name of John Dunford (Paton & Kirkup, 2008). The author
