the students. the following paper examines, comparing, state statistics of Tennessee and those of Pickett County, Tennessee as they involve education conditions. Education: State Averages: Tennessee
The first concern involves comparing, in grades K-8, the performance of Pickett County with the state as it concerns the Criterion Referenced Academic Achievement in
various subjects broken down into various groups. Pickett County only has white students and of those students, in 2005, 10% were below
proficiency, 55% percent proficient and 35% advanced. For the economically disadvantaged 2005 illustrates those below proficient standards were 14% with 56% proficient and 30% advanced. Students who had disabilities showed
61% below proficient, 31% proficient and 8% advanced. In relationship to the statistics concerning male and female students, in 2005 9% of males were below proficiency and 10% of females
were below. Males had 52% of the students being proficient and 39% advanced. With the females it was 58% proficient and 32% advanced.
In Reading/Language/Writing, in 2005, the students were 8% below, 51% proficient, and 41% advanced. Those who were economically disadvantaged, in the same year, were 12% below, 59% proficient and
29% advanced. Students with disabilities, in 2005, had 59% percent below, 325 proficient, and 9% advanced. The males demonstrated 11% below, 46% proficient and 43% advanced. With the females the
