education has always been a controversial issue amongst the voters of this country. The question is not, of course, should education be funded by government. All agree that a
well-educated population is essential for maintaining and improving our democratic way of life, and to maintain that way of life, it is not sufficient for private money to be the
sole supporter of our school system. Should the bulk of the money come from the State Government, as some believe, or should it be from the Federal Government, as others
may argue? There are good reasons that can be seen on both sides, and to fully understand the issue, one must fully understand the history behind all of the
proposed arguments. One of the essential political ideologies that had been incorporated into the forming of our nation was the concept of "states rights". This idea is based
on the principle that "the individual states know what is best for their citizens than the Federal Government" (Secession Crisis, 2010). Also, there are those that feel that the only
function of the Federal Government is to protect our citizens, therefore, other than funding the military, the Federal Government has no right to intrude on the business of each
individual state (unless specifically invited to do so by the states themselves). Another important factor is that if funding is maintained at a local level (states paying for state schools),
