are not aware that by simply being African American, they are at increased risk for developing hypertension. Furthermore, due to the fact that hypertension is typically symptom-free, many African Americans
with hypertension are unaware of this condition, so, subsequently, their condition is uncontrolled. Experts estimate that as many as 16 percent of all adult Americans are hypertensive, but unaware of
this condition and it is believed that African Americans comprise 25 percent of this group (Taylor, 2009). As this indicates, there is an urgent need for an educational program
that will aid health care providers at this facility that will aid them in educating patients who are at risk for hypertension and also help them address the needs of
patients with hypertension in regards to controlling it. This proposed education program utilizes the ADDIE model. ADDIE is an acronym for Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation and is defined
as a "generic and simplified instructional systems design model" (Wang and Hsu, 2009, p. 79). Analysis Discussion of evidence: Hypertension
is a chronic health condition that is multifaceted and quickly "approaching epidemic proportions among African Americans" (Taylor, 2009, p. 99). While the incidence of hypertension increased for all racial, ethnic
and gender groups between 1999 and 2004, in African American women this incidence of hypertension increased by 14 percent (Taylor, 2009). It is also true that for African Americans, hypertension
typically develops at an earlier age and to a greater degree of severity than it does in other demographic groups. Concurrent with increases in hypertension among African Americans, the diagnosis
