music sense developed. A number of concepts can be considered in terms of the relationship between theory and practice. Editing has been an essential element of film making. It may
be argued that in a modern culture with a high level of exposure there is an inherent understanding of some editing issues. Wayne (1997) argues that it is editing that
constructs the images into relationships with one another. Different choices in terms of cuts, angles and content can change the message and give different impressions. However, there is no single
right or wrong way of editing a film and the way it is edited should reflect the message that is being communicated and is a central part of making the
film, not merely a technical aspect of production (Wayne, 1997). For those on a low budget, such as with the use of a home video camera it is suggested that
the easiest form of editing is that of continuity editing. For example, the sue of editing to show action, where different shots are used to match up, such as a
person getting out of a chair and then being shown form a different angle entering a room. The use of inevitable continuity has been associated with Hollywood. When looking
at how practice matches with theory there are a large number of examples that can be cited to indicate the use of this at a conscious and even subconscious level.
